Currently, Glenda is president of the company she founded in 2015, Glenda Umaña Communications.

After 18 years as CNN en Español's lead anchor, Glenda Umaña has become a household name in Latin America, earning the respect and recognition of millions of viewers. Glenda, now a freelance journalist, speaker and media consultant, is a popular speaker who has headlined numerous conferences and events in Latin America. 

Glenda joined CNN en Español during its launch in 1997, becoming one of its top anchors. She went on to host and host many popular programs including: Panorama Mundial (weekend edition), Nuestro Mundo, Actualidad, Escenario, Consulta Médica and Café CNN. 

Glenda covered a wide range of international news. Highlights of her coverage include: the death of Pope John Paul, the fall and capture of Iraqi President Saddam Hussein, the 9/11 terrorist attacks and the impeachment trial of President Bill Clinton. She received the "Best Television Reporting" award from the Central American Journalists Association. She was elected Grand Marshal of the "Festival de la Luz", Costa Rica's most acclaimed festival held annually in San José.

 Prior to CNN en Español, Umaña was a correspondent for CBS TeleNoticias. She began her journalistic career as a reporter for San José's Channel 17, the first English-language newscast in Costa Rica. In 1988 she joined Canal 7, and for eight years she was a reporter and anchor of the country's top-rated newscast. Born in San José, Costa Rica, she earned a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Costa Rica and a master's degree in communications from Florida International University.
